October Tarot Musings
As the month of October breezed in, we may have noticed ourselves feeling social, friendly and light, or perhaps focusing on thoughts of love relationships, or any type of one-on-one partnership. The desire for harmony and equality felt very important. October begins in Libra and Libra wants things fair and just. We want to go out for a lovely dinner. Beauty holds our attention; summer’s last yellow butterflies fluttering around blooming roses, or the scalloped pattern of the scattered clouds, that melodious ballad cooing on the radio. We might feel like changing our hairstyle, or decide to wear that china red lipstick to our yoga class we usually reserve for a night out. Simultaneously, whatever feels out of balance in our lives announces itself through circumstances, tapping on our shoulder without relief, until we can no longer deny it. We need balance.
As the days of October march forward, they intensify, like pounding heart beats, so that when the end of the month nears, we may feel as if suddenly we woke up in a serious mood, brooding and internal, our feelings consumed in the depths of beginnings and endings. Sometimes external circumstances dramatically force us to pay attention to what MUST be let go, and sometimes internal things like an ongoing fear or health issues grab your attention. October commences in Libra then moves into the beginning time of Scorpio — it is my feeling that the early days of scorpio often show us what we have absolutely outgrown and what needs to be transformed.
What do you need to let go of?
Kiss It Goodbye
Letting go of what no longer serves is not an easy process (or we would have done it already) and therefore is left to the hard-scrabble core strength and tenacity of the Scorpio days, when things become black and white, direct, obvious and dire. Scorpio will take no BS, especially from your own self, so it is a time of becoming painfully honest and beginning that Death process we call letting go. It may hurt, you may feel like grief grabbed your heart in its fist, you may feel dropped in a well of emotion or sudden abandonment, but surrender you must what no longer serves. Scorpio will have it no other way, it must live in its truth and the regenerative powers are on your side. The loss is paving the way for victories to come. Whether it is an actual relationship, friendship, a form of income, an emotional pattern, a habitual way of reacting, an unhealthy habit, a toxic person, an obsession-compulsion, Let-It-Go.
You will feel passionately determined and motivated for that new beginning that will arise on the empty soil ~~ that clear foundation of what you have demolished.

The Death Card - Tarot
One of the most powerful cards in the Tarot is the Death card, summoning and exposing our greatest fears as we step out into the complete Unknown. It is a card of profound transformation, change, elimination and rebirth. It is the end of an era, and can be no other way, no matter how much you force and fight, eventual surrender is necessary. The death card is represented by the astrological sign Scorpio and therefore it is the Tarot Card and theme for October. Halloween synchronistically punctuates with an exclamation point the end of October, as we honor the dead and departed, the saints, martyrs, and ghosts.
We must die to give form to the new and therefore most humans recoil from this intense process of reconstruction. Not many go willingly into dismantling. I see clients shudder consistently when this card appears in a reading, until they learn that it heralds a bright new beginning, but only after the courageous steps have been taken. You cannot get to the light on the other side of the tunnel, without going through that dark tunnel. So the death card is that dreaded walk through that treacherous tunnel, and along that inescapable path, you drop the unnecessary bags that burden your journey. You lighten the load. You begin to feel free.
Life is a continual process of death and rebirth, of change and evolution. When this card comes up, I am so happy for that person! And yet I have enormous compassion, as I understand they have been going through a time of self-exploration, confronting inescapable sweeping change. I honor them for their courage. And I try to remind them that a fresh start awaits. A new beginning to create whatever they want.
* How do you feel about the letting go process?
* What have you let go of that opened up a new beginning?
* Where has courage grown in you because of walking yourself through that process time and again?
* How can you be more loving to yourself while surrendering to change?
Take ten minutes to meditate, close your eyes and breathe slowly. Begin to feel your thoughts slow, and your body relax. What is culled from deep inside? Take a piece of paper and write for five minutes straight without censoring yourself - let the pen move across the page without reading what you write.
How is your inner voice speaking to you? Is it through sensations in your body or is it speaking to you in words as thoughts? What must be surrendered? Begin today, one step in that direction. Then take one step each day for the rest of October.
